Augusta, Georgia

The Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing received a generous gift to form the Greater Augusta Healthcare Network (GAHN). GAHN is funded by a grant from Healthcare Georgia Foundation. Created in 1999 as an independent private foundation, the Foundation’s mission is to advance the health of all Georgian’s and to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities. The GAHN Network, consisting of key stakeholders from community health clinics, area hospitals, public health providers, and social service agencies will work collaboratively to address the healthcare needs of our community. It is important that we rethink the approach to healthcare delivery in our community as the number of uninsured and underinsured residents increases.

GAHN Core Leadership Board members will develop a viable plan that will increase access to quality, affordable healthcare, while simultaneously eliminating barriers that stem from uncoordinated and under-funded services. We firmly believe that a healthy community includes health care for all of its people. Our vision for GAHN is to promote collaboration among health care providers, define the community’s needs through widespread assessment, and pool our resources so that we will be able to provide a health care home for everyone in our community.

Vision

Our vision is to improve the health and reduce the burden of illness in the greater Augusta community by increasing access to quality, cost effective health care for medically underserved residents.

Mission

Our mission is to bring together a core group of committed community stakeholders, who will recruit area health care and social service providers, forming the Greater Augusta Healthcare Network (GAHN). Through shared expertise and resources, a seamless system of health care will be created to provide a health care home for all area residents.
